Graffiti Analysis

We All Live Here. This piece of graffiti interested me the most in many ways and made want to analyze this piece of art. For instance, that saying can be taken in many different perspectives depending who you are and what you believe in. I believe that the overall message in this graffiti is no matter who you are, what you are, and where you came from, “we all live here.” As a student and a minority, I take this piece of art relating to the background of students that live in this area. University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign is a university that has many students from all over the country. It also has many foreign exchange students from different countries around the world. Since the university is very diverse with its students, there tends to be many incidents where theres exclusive ideas that does not create a welcome environment. Thus, the university tries to teach its students to be inclusive and respects each person’s culture no matter where they are from. Thus, this message that the graffiti is showing relates to promote inclusiveness. Since “We all live here”, we all share something similar. We share that we all come to this university to learn and become something more. The graffiti that I picked is located at the Sipyard at Urbana. The location of this piece of art is on the top part of a wall where there is a trailer. However, it is not being covered by the trailer. You can clearly see it when you pass by. The size of the print is pretty big enough to see when walking across. You are able to clearly read it, and will be able to send the message across. I believe that the audience for this graffiti text is to students and young adults who live in Urbana and Champaign. I believe that this message does communicate effectively to its target audience. It does because the location is near campus and close to bars and stores. Many students go to the Sipyard to catch a drink and communicate with other individuals. Its a place where you will find students and young adults in that area.
